Description
The Riverhead Public House is a 16th-century building located on Amherst Hill in Riverhead. The main block features a jettied front and a jettied right return, with a dragon beam at an angle and some visible old solid braces. It stands two storeys high and has three windows. The large roof is hipped on the right and has been renewed with machine tiles. The exterior is now rendered with imitation half-timbering on the first floor, and there is a stone plinth at the base. The first floor has horizontal sliding sash windows, while the ground floor features 18th and 19th-century square bay windows with sash windows. Inside, some timber is exposed. To the left, there is an 18th-century two-storey, two-window extension with an early 19th-century second floor added. This extension has painted brick below and stucco above, with recessed sash windows that include glazing bars. The low-pitched hipped slate roof complements the structure. There are also modern extensions to the right and rear of the building.
