Description
Absalom's Farmhouse is a substantial house that appears to date from the early 17th century, although some parts may be older. It was restored in the 18th century, as indicated by a date plaque from 1778, when the ground floor was covered in galletted coursed stone. The building has three storeys and four irregularly placed windows, with a hipped tiled roof on the right side. The first floor features 19th-century tile hanging, and the windows are leaded casements. Inside, there is much wide-chamfered heavy timber, along with one original and several restored stone fireplaces that have Tudor arches. There are two panelled rooms, one of which has significant old linenfold, possibly imported.
Absalom's Farmhouse is part of a group that includes the Granary, a former cowshed, the formal garden walls, the stable range, a cobbled yard, and the oast range.
