Description

Sabden Great Hall is a house dated 1577, with a main range and a west wing from the early 17th century. It is constructed of freestone with a plinth and quoins, and features a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys, a central section, and two gabled wings, which are now divided into two dwellings.

The front left gable displays a five-light stone mullion window with a drip label on each storey. The ground floor of the centre has a chamfered doorway, alongside a six-light hall mullion and transom window that has a door inserted in the lower right-hand two lights. There is also a two-light window in a blocked doorway with drip labels above it. On the first floor, there are three four-light windows. The right-hand gable features a six-light window and a six-light mullion and transom window above it.

At the rear, there is a porch under the same roof as the gabled wing, though the entrance has been altered to a window. Above the porch is a tablet inscribed with "1577/1878." The building has three chimneys. Inside, there are stone doorways and fireplaces, with beams supported on stone corbels. The first floor includes a Tudor arched doorway with an original oak studded door. According to the RCHM report, the interior has been altered, but it retains early 17th-century roof structures with short king posts and trenched purlins.
