Description
Dean Farmhouse is a house built in 1574, with extensions added in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of sandstone rubble and has a modern tile roof. The building consists of two parallel ranges, with the western range being the older of the two. It stands two storeys high with an attic.
The south wall features twin gables; the right-hand gable, which is from the 19th century, is blank and topped with a chimney cap. The left-hand gable includes double-chamfered mullioned windows. On the ground floor, there is a 14-light window with a transom and hood, and the upper lights have round heads. The first-floor window consists of five lights with a hood, while the attic window has two lights. Above the ground-floor window, there is a worn inscription that reads: "This House was builded by Hugh Moore, Son of Christover Moore auldest brother son, and Letis Hugh wife in the yeare of oure Lord God 1574."
The west wall has a blocked one-light chamfered window on the first floor, and the two chimney caps appear to be from the 19th century. The 19th-century range features an east wall with three bays, each having windows with stone surrounds and flat-faced mullions. The windows are mostly two lights, except for the left-hand ground-floor window, which has three lights. To the right of the middle ground-floor window, there is a door with a plain stone surround. The right-hand gable wall of this range has a blocked first-floor door, which once led to a granary. The adjoining gable of the western range has flush chamfered mullioned windows on the first and attic floors. The interior of the farmhouse does not appear to have any exposed features of architectural interest.
