Description

Hartley's Post Office Stone Row is an early 19th-century terrace of six stone houses numbered 1 to 6. Hartley's, the post office, is the central property and has two windows, while the others each have one. The terrace has a low-pitched slate roof and is built of coursed freestone with a band and plinth. It retains its original iron casement windows with leaded glass squares. The houses have plank doors set within moulded wooden frames, each sheltered by a square stone hood with curved stone brackets. In the mid-19th century, a double shop front was added to Hartley’s, projecting from the ground floor. Access to the central glazed door is via four stone steps. The shop front is topped by a full-width moulded cornice and a low gable featuring a pierced bargeboard and a cast-iron finial.
