Description
Doves Cottage is a house dating from the early 18th century, with later alterations. The front elevation features a chequered pattern of red and grey brick, while the first floor of the right gable end is weatherboarded. The building has a plain tile roof and consists of two storeys and an attic, topped with a half-hipped roof. There are projecting gable end stacks made of red and grey brick, and two gabled two-light dormers. The front has a regular arrangement of three windows, including two three-light casements and one central two-light casement, all with segmental heads on the ground floor. The central door has four flush panels, two top lights, and a flat bracketed hood. At the rear, there is a lean-to. The interior has not been inspected. Doves Cottage appears in a 1719 print of West Farleigh Hall, published in Country Life on September 21, 1967. It was formerly known as Smith's Cottage or Ivy Cottage.
