Description

East View, Redbar Electrical Limited, and South View is a pair of houses and a shop, likely formerly an inn, dating from the 16th century with later alterations. The building is timber framed and rendered, topped with a plain tile roof. The left side of the building features a chequered pattern of red and grey brick on the ground floor, with weatherboarding above. There is a stack bay towards the center and three storeyed, timber-framed bays to the right, with the rightmost bay subdivided and approximately two to the left, the left end possibly framed as a cross-wing. The building has two storeys and a plinth that follows the slope of the land. It features a continuous jetty, slightly lower at the left end, with a painted wooden fascia board and boarded eaves soffits. The roof is hipped to the left with a gablet, and there is a brick ridge stack towards the center, along with a central ridge stack on the left return wing.

The fenestration is irregular, with five windows: two tripartite sashes to the left of the stack and three 3-light casements to the right. There are two 4-pane sashes on the left return elevation, and a canted bay window at the left end of the ground floor, with a tripartite sash to its right. To the right of the stack, there are three bay windows for the shop. Access includes a panelled door under a half-glazed porch, which is reached by seven steps at the center of the left return elevation, leading to South View. Another panelled door is accessed by four steps under the main-range stack, leading to East View. There is also a panelled door up three steps and a half-glazed door up two steps, located between the bay windows to the right of the stack. A projecting wooden bar on the first floor carries the shop sign. At the rear, there are two short conjoined wings attached to the main range. The interior has only been partly inspected, but it features exposed framing to the right of the stack, with moulded cross and axial beams on the ground floor and gunstock jowls on the principal posts. There are arch-braced tie-beams, and it is said to have a crown-post roof.
