Description

This is a row of houses located on the south side of High Street, Headcorn. Numbers 12 to 18 were built in the late 18th or early 19th century, while numbers 6 to 10 are from the 19th century. The ground floors of numbers 12 to 18 are faced with rendered brick to the left of a carriage entrance and chequered red and grey brick to the right. The first floors are tile-hung, with number 10 having painted brick, and numbers 6 and 8 constructed from red brick in Flemish bond. They have plain tile roofs, and dentilled brick eaves cornices to numbers 6 to 10. The roof is hipped at the right end of number 8, with the hip returning. A slender brick ridge stack is located at the junction with Shakespeare House (number 18), with larger ridge stacks towards the ends of numbers 12 to 18. There are three rear stacks to numbers 6 to 10. The fenestration is irregular, with four 3-light casements to numbers 12 to 16, a two-storey flat-roofed canted bay window to number 10, and a regular two-window front of 12-pane sash windows to numbers 6 to 8. A later carriage entrance is located towards the right end of numbers 12 to 18. Boarded doors are located to the right of the carriage entrance at number 14, and at the right end of number 12. A half-glazed porch with trellised bargeboards and plain stained glass is present. A half-glazed door, with a lean-to porch, is located in the centre of number 8. A panelled door with a segmental head and flat bracketed hood is present on the right return of number 6. The interiors have not been inspected. The buildings are included in the listing for group value.
