Description
Great Fowlhall is a farmhouse dating from the 18th century, possibly with an earlier core, and features 19th-century windows and a lean-to addition. The building is timber-framed and weatherboarded, topped with a plain tile roof. It consists of four timber-framed bays and is two storeys high with attics, sitting on a rendered plinth. The roof is half-hipped, with a slight change in pitch that suggests a gambrel shape. A red brick ridge stack with a cogged cornice is located at the left end of the left-central bay. There is a gabled two-light dormer towards the right end, and the windows are arranged irregularly, with three three-light casements—one to the left and two to the right of the stack. The ground floor features similar windows with shallow bracketed hoods, and there is a half-glazed door situated under the stack. At the rear, there is a lean-to addition.
The interior has only been partially inspected but reveals exposed principal posts and cross-beams, with an axial beam in the left end ground-floor room. A brick fireplace with a wooden bressumer is present, along with curved raked tie-beams of relatively heavy timber in the rear lean-to. A broad door with ventilation slits separates the right end room from the lean-to. The farmhouse was formerly known as Clinches Farm.
