Description
Weald House at Maidstone Prison was built between 1809 and 1811 by Daniel Alexander. It is one of the original cell blocks, although a recent addition in pre-cast concrete has been made to its north-east elevation. The south-west elevation features three storeys constructed of Kentish ragstone, with a wide eaves cornice. There are 21 segmental barred windows on the upper floors and a stringcourse between the ground and first floors. The ground floor windows are set in blocked round-headed arcading. The building has a slate roof with octagonal stone chimney pots and pedimented side elevations. All the listed buildings at Maidstone Prison form a group.
