Description
The Old Sessions House, designed by architect Sir Robert Smirke in 1824, is a two-storey building constructed of ashlar, which has recently been refaced. The structure features a central section flanked by two slightly projecting wings. It has a parapet and a modillion cornice with a blocking course above the center. On the first floor, there are three round-headed windows in the central portion and one square leaded window in each wing, all with intact glazing bars. The ground floor includes a wide round-headed doorway with a semi-circular fanlight and double doors, each with eight panels, along with narrow round-headed windows in each wing. Access to the building is via six stone steps leading to street level. The interior boasts a stone staircase with one wooden Doric column at each step.
