Description

The Theatre at Maidstone Prison was built between 1809 and 1811 by Daniel Alexander. Originally designed as a two-storey building, it has since been altered to create one large storey. The structure is made of Kentish ragstone and features ten round-headed blanks on what was the first floor. The ground floor has round-headed arcading that was originally open but is now blocked. The theatre is attached to the Rotunda at ground floor level. All the listed buildings at Maidstone Prison form a group.
