Description

Phoenix Chambers is a mid-19th century building located on the southwest side of Market Buildings. It stands two storeys tall, featuring a first floor made of stock brick and a ground floor finished in rusticated stucco. The building has a parapet with stone coping and eight sash windows without glazing bars. A moulded stringcourse runs along the building, which widens to form a central hood above the doorcase. This hood is adorned with a statue of a phoenix amidst flames on the cornice, supported by three console brackets. The entrance includes a rectangular fanlight and two folding doors.
