Description

St. Margarets House is a vicarage, now a house, built in the early to mid-19th century in a Gothick style, with some later 19th-century additions. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, accented with yellow brick dressings and quoins, including those on the chimney stacks. It features a plain tile roof that faces south.

The house has two storeys set on a brick plinth and is gabled, with moulded bargeboards. There are slightly projecting brick gable end stacks, each with two diagonally-set flues, brick strings at the base and top, and corbelled tops. The front has a regular arrangement of three windows, each a recessed twelve-pane sash with a pointed upper row of panes and a cambered head. The ground floor has similar windows with splayed rubbed brick voussoirs. The central entrance features a panelled door with a plain rectangular fanlight, sheltered by a flat-topped Doric porch on a stone step.

At the rear, there is a central wing styled similarly to the main building, with front and rear gable-end stacks that have diagonally-set flues like those on the main range. The long left side has a regular three-window front, consisting of two two-light casements with pointed upper panes and segmental heads, along with a blind central window. The ground floor mirrors this window arrangement, and there is a central blocked pointed-arched doorway.

Additionally, two short wings have been added at right angles to the long right side of the central rear wing, set back from both the rear gable end of the central wing and the right gable end of the main range. Each of these wings features weatherboarded gables and Gothick lights. The door to these wings has four flush panels, a segmental head, and a four-light rectangular fanlight. The interior has not been inspected.
