Description

Brandenbury House is a late 18th-century house located on Haviker Street in Yalding, constructed from red brick in Flemish bond with a plain tile roof. The building is double depth and has two storeys set on a brick plinth. It features flat eaves soffits adorned with paired Ionic modillions and a hipped roof with hips returning to the rear. There are rear stacks positioned to the left and right.

The front façade has a regular arrangement of three windows, consisting of two sixteen-pane recessed sashes and a central twelve-pane sash, all framed by splayed rubbed brick voussoirs. On the ground floor, there are two similar sixteen-pane sashes. The central entrance door is comprised of six flush beaded panels and is topped with a semi-circular fanlight. This door is set within an architrave that includes fluted Doric pilasters and a moulded broken-based triangular pediment, accessed by three stone steps with moulded treads.

To the right of the main house is a two-storey rear wing made of red and grey brick, which is gabled and features a gable end stack. There is also two-storey rear infilling to the left.

Inside, the house has an oval stairwell at the centre of the main range, with a curved door in the rear wall leading to a first-floor corridor in the rear wing. The doorcases are decorated with paterae, and there are panelled doors throughout. The fireplaces are fitted with late 18th-century surrounds and iron grates. The left ground-floor fireplace is flanked by round-headed niches with curved shelves, panelled doors, and reeded pilasters, while a rectangular niche with paterae, a cornice, and panelled doors is located beside the right ground-floor fireplace.
