Description
This building, now a row of houses, likely began as a timber-framed house dating to the 15th century, with alterations made in the 16th century and a new facade in the late 19th century. The ground floor is built of chequered red and grey brick, while the first floor is tile-hung with alternating bands of plain and fishscale tiles. The roof is tiled with a weatherboarded gable end on the left, partially on the first floor and ground floor, rendered towards the apex. The building comprises a main range and a cross-wing. The main range is 1 1/2 storeys high on a plinth. The cross-wing, projecting to the right, is two storeys high and has plain bargeboards. The ground floor of the main range has been built out to be level with the wing, with a plain-tiled pentice roof over. The right end of the main range roof is hipped down to join the wing. A brick ridge stack is positioned off-centre to the left, featuring three octagonal flues on a corniced plinth. The windows are irregularly placed, with two 3-light dormers on the main range and one 3-light casement on the wing. There are three panelled doors, each with three steps leading up to them, recessed and framed with panels. Numbers 12 and 16 each have a flat, bracketed hood, while number 14 has a reeded surround with patterned details and a flat, corniced hood. A boarded door with a segmental head is located at the left end of number 16. The interior of number 14 features a moulded end to the hall beam and ogee braces on the first floor, along with exposed timbers from the 15th and 16th centuries. Other blocked features are also present. The interiors of numbers 12 and 16 have not been inspected.
