Description
Jasmine Cottage is a house dating from the 18th century, located on the east side of Yolding Hill in Yolding. The house was originally timber-framed and is now clad in beaded weatherboarding to the front and plain weatherboarding to the sides. It has a plain tile roof. Originally, the house had two timber-framed bays and a rear lean-to, but the lean-to has been extended upwards to two storeys. The house has one and a half storeys. A brick plinth is visible at the front, whereas a stone plinth is at the rear. The roof is half-hipped, with tile-hung half gables. Projecting gable end stacks, one larger than the other, are made of red and grey brick. Two flat-roofed dormers, each with three-light windows, are visible. The front has a regular two-window arrangement with wooden three-light casement windows. A door with four panels is positioned slightly to the right of centre. A single-storey rear wing, built in the late 20th century from red and grey brick, is in a similar style to the original house. Internally, the doors have two broad panels. A small leaded casement window with a sickle handle is found in the left gable of the former lean-to. A blocked ground-floor fireplace is on the left, and a brick fireplace in English bond with a wooden bressumer is on the right. A large bread oven is located in the former rear lean-to. The house represents a relatively unusual and comparatively unaltered survival.
