Description

The table tomb for the Lushington family is located approximately 9 yards east of the chancel of the Church of St Mary and All Saints. It dates from the early to mid-19th century and is constructed of stone on a stone base, featuring a moulded plinth and a corniced lid. The side panels are recessed within beaded surrounds, while the central panels are fielded and also surrounded by beading. The entire tomb, along with the entrance to the vault, is enclosed by a plain stone plinth that once had railings. The end panels are plain.

On the south side, the tomb commemorates Edmund Henry Lushington Esquire, who died in 1839, and his wife Sophia, who died in 1811, along with their youngest daughter Louise Sophia, who died in 1831, and their second son Henry Lushington, who died in 1833. Each inscription provides the date and place of birth and death for these individuals. The north side bears an inscription indicating that the tomb was raised by the remaining children of Edmund Henry and Sophia Lushington, and it is also dedicated to the memory of Edmund Henry, the only son of Edmund Law Lushington and Cecilia, who died in 1836, and of Emily, the second daughter of Edmund Law Lushington and Cecilia Lushington, who died in 1868.
