Description
93-95 High Street is a building constructed in 1855 by Whichcord and Ashpitel. It is notable for its unusual and early use of a cast iron facade. The building has four storeys, with a framework of cast iron and infilling of green tiles, topped by a hipped slate roof. The elaborate moulded eaves cornice features modillions. On the second and third floors, there are six sash windows that have verticals only. The third floor windows are adorned with a double scroll on the parapet above each window. The first floor includes nine windows, three of which are double windows with cast iron spiral pilasters between them. The shopfronts have been modernized. Nos 93 to 95, along with Nos 97A and 98 to 100, form a group.
