Description
Watercress Cottage is an 18th-century cottage located in the garden of Parsonage Farm, featuring some re-used medieval stone. The ground floor of the north elevation is made of galletted stone with brick patches and a brick band, while the first floor is constructed from ashlared chalk lump. The west gable end is covered with tarred weatherboarding, and the roof is made of plain tiles, hipped at the east end and half-hipped at the west end. The cottage has one and a half storeys and includes two projecting brick stacks, one towards the west end of the north elevation and another on the east gable end. There is a two-light casement window on each floor in the west gable end, along with a small hipped dormer in the east hip of the roof. A plank door and a ground floor two-light casement are located under a brick relieving arch to the right of the stack in the east gable end.
Adjoining the cottage is a medieval wall that encloses the north-east corner of the garden. To the south, it forms the rear wall of a weatherboarded barn. To the north, the wall runs approximately 6 yards north of the cottage before returning about 3 yards to the west. The wall is approximately 10 feet high and is made of galletted chalk lump with a thick band of flint on a tall galletted chalk lump plinth.
