Description
Meadow House was built in 1770 by Bonham Hayes, brother of Richard Hayes, owner of Owletts. The house is constructed of red brick with hipped slate roofs. It comprises a central two-storey block with a semi-basement and a symmetrical facade, topped by a parapet, and is flanked by single-storey pavilions connected by screen walls. A central porch, accessed by eight steps with iron railings, features Doric columns supporting a pediment above a six-panel door, which itself sits below a semi-circular fanlight. Sash windows are fitted with glazing bars. Each pavilion features a round-headed window flanked by recesses, creating the impression of a Venetian window. Above these are lunette-shaped recesses within pediments set above string courses. The north front is faced in mathematical tiles. The interior is largely of 20th-century date.
