Description
70 and 71 Windmill Street is a mid-19th century pair of buildings that rise four storeys with a basement, finished in stucco. They feature a parapet and a moulded eaves cornice. Below the third floor, there is a cornice with a central pediment above three windows. The facade includes four sash windows and a central window space. Supporting the central pediment on the second and first floors are four modified Composite columns, which have an anthemion motif on their capitals. The first-floor windows are framed in moulded architraves and adorned with four paterae. The ground floor has a cast iron balcony and is partly rusticated, featuring two round-headed windows and one window space set within arcading that also has paterae decoration. There are two projecting brick porticos, each with two plain Ionic columns, two square Doric columns, and two Doric pilasters. Steps lead down to the street. Nos 68 to 71 Windmill Street form a group.
