Description

Rothschild Farmhouse is a house dating to the 18th century, with alterations made in the early 19th century. The front facade and right gable are constructed of chequered red and grey brick, with a plain tile roof. The building sits on a galletted stone plinth, and features a renewed brick parapet and gable end stacks. The front has a regular two-window arrangement with 16-pane glazing bar sashes in open boxes, and splayed voussoirs. A central 18th-century panelled door with two upper lights is contained beneath a small 19th-century porch, supported by two Corinthian columns and featuring a triangular wooden pediment inscribed "Rothschild Farm Cottage". A two-storey addition to the rear has a tile-hung first floor and a lean-to roof. A former forge, to the left, has been significantly altered in the 20th century. The interior was only partly inspected; medieval timbers were re-used as beams and joists on the ground floor.
