Description

Home Farm is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with a front facade dating to the early 19th century. It is timber framed and originally had a lobby-entry plan, with two timber-framed bays and a possible stack bay.

The front elevation is red and grey brick in a mixed bond, with exposed timber framing and brick infill to the right gable end. The roof is covered in plain tiles and has a hipped form. The building stands on a flint and stone plinth, with a continuous jetty. The right gable end features gunstock-jowled corner posts, a full-height central post, two first-floor tension braces, broadly-spaced studding, and intermediate rails at uneven levels creating two panels per storey. A multiple red and grey brick stack is located to the right of centre. The front has a regular three-window arrangement of recessed three-light casements, with a central single-light casement. The ground-floor windows have segmental heads. A central boarded door, slightly left of the stack, is set up two steps and has a segmental head. A brick rear lean-to extends from the left side. A short two-storey red and grey brick rear wing is present to the right, with a plain tile roof.

The interior, only partly inspected, reveals exposed timber framing in the left ground-floor room, including chamfered axial beams and joists, and a cross beam in front of the stack. The room has a brick floor. A large brick fireplace with a wooden bressumer bearing a possible date of 160/17 is also present, along with an edge-halved wall-plate scarf joint.
