Description
This is a mid-19th century terrace of ten buildings, numbered 48 to 58, on Castle Street. The buildings are not uniform in design and are constructed of stock brick, with a slate mansard roof to numbers 48 and 50, and a dropped, moulded eaves cornice across the terrace. Each building has one or two sash windows, the majority retaining their original glazing bars, and brick or stone sills. Number 52 features a narrow, round-headed blank shop front dating from the early 19th century, while numbers 54 and 56 have more typical shop fronts. Number 50 has an interesting later 19th-century shop front, approached by a flight of stone steps with handrails. Numbers 16 to 58 (even) are designated as a group due to their collective architectural character.
