Description

The terrace comprises Nos. 1 to 7 Russell Street, dating from 1836. The buildings are three storeys high with a basement and area. The ground floors are stuccoed, while the upper floors are painted brick, although No. 4 has been refaced with roughcast. A stuccoed cornice runs along the top of the building. Each house originally had one window, with the end houses featuring two windows. Iron balconies are present on the first floor. Although much of the original glazing is missing, Nos. 1, 2, 3, and 5 retain slightly curved windows with glazing bars intact on the ground floor; the other houses feature modern bay windows. Round-headed doorcases are characteristic, featuring fluted jambs resembling quarter columns and semi-circular fanlights. A large flat arch provides a carriageway between Nos. 3 and 4, with a window belonging to No. 4 positioned above it. Nos. 1 to 8 Russell Street are considered to form a cohesive group due to their similar design.
