Description
The garden terraces located about 50 metres west of the Church of St. Mary were built in the late 19th century, designed by George Devey for Sir Walter James. They are constructed from brown brick and dressed stone. The terraces consist of four levels, featuring low flint retaining walls with brick coping and small piers topped with ball finials. The upper terrace includes a large round base, likely intended for a fountain. Above this, there are two flights of seven steps, adorned with vases on the side piers, leading to an oval walled area that has balustrading and urn finials on the piers flanking the side stairs. At the top of the complex, there is a set of stairs that features a central flint panel with a portrait bust set within a roundel.
