Description
These are four houses located at 4-10 Market Street, likely dating from the early 16th century, although the frontages were rebuilt in the early 19th century. Number 4 is a three-story building of yellow brick, featuring four box sash windows with 12 panes of glazing bars each. It has a tiled roof, an eaves gutter, and a modern shop front. Number 6, also three stories, is of yellow brick with two red rubbed brick arches over two box sash windows from which the glazing bars have been lost, and a parapet. It also has a modern shop front. Number 8 is a three-story yellow brick building, painted, with four rubbed brick arches above four box sash windows containing 16 panes of glazing bars. It has a parapet and a late Victorian shop front, with a deeply recessed door and four panes of glazing with segmental heads, the door positioned within one of the panes. Number 10 has a three-story plastered (rendered) front with a parapet and four box sash windows with four panes of glazing each, along with a modern shop front. These houses, together with numbers 22 and 24 Market Street and the Milk Alley Flat with numbers 2 and 4 Potter Street, form a group with group value.
