Description

Great Selson is a house dating from the mid-17th century, with extensions added in the early 18th century. It is constructed of red brick, with tile hanging on the left return. The roof is tiled and hipped, featuring two hipped dormers and a stack to the left. A plat band runs along the base, and there is a moulded eaves cornice. The ground floor has two glazing bar sash windows, and the first floor has three. There are two basement openings to the right. A boarded door with a small glazing bar sash is set within a gabled wooden porch. A single-storey extension projects to the left. A rear wing to the right includes a two-storey hipped porch with rusticated brick quoins, a horizontally sliding sash window on the first floor, and an elliptical doorway.

Inside, the mid-17th century staircase has large square section newels, a slightly moulded handrail, column-turned balusters, an open well plan, and rises to the attic storey. Inglenooks and moulded door surrounds are found throughout the house.
