Description

Three houses, formerly a public house (The Ship Inn), dating from the 15th century, with alterations made in the 18th century through to the late 20th century. The houses are timber-framed and rendered, with a plain tiled roof. Originally built as a hall house, the plan has been significantly altered over time. The main elevation is divided into three sections: two storeys on the left, one storey and an attic in the centre, and a three-storey wing with a basement, projecting forward and topped with a half-hipped roof. The main range has a hipped roof, with stacks projecting at the right end, a paired stack to the front left, and a stack to the rear left. The fenestration is irregular, with glazing bar sashes to the right, paired on both the first and ground floors. The centre section has two glazing bar sashes and a hipped dormer. A wooden casement window, showing exposed framing, is positioned over a carriageway on the left. The right-hand wing has a six-panel door with a rectangular fanlight and a flight of five steps leading up to it. A half-glazed door is also present on the left return. The rear elevation is clad in brickwork of various colours and bonded in different dates. The interior is reported to retain a full timber frame, including dragon beams.
