Description
The walled gardens and stables adjacent to and west of Nos. 1-3 The Groves were built in the mid-18th century for Sir William Lynch. They are constructed from plum-colored brick and feature irregular buttressing and coping, standing at an average height of about 8 feet. The gardens consist of two courts, each approximately 100 by 200 feet square. On the south wall, there are two gate piers made of plum brick with red brick dressings, reaching about 10 feet high and topped with moulded stone cornice caps. A segmental-headed doorway with a parapet and a poetic inscription is also present. At the southwest end of the gardens, there is a 17th-century stable block made of irregular red brick, which is a single storey with a double-span roof. Inside, stalls and mangers remain. Additionally, there is a rebuilt 17th-century coach house at the extreme southwest corner, which was in the process of being converted into a house at the time of the survey, but it is not of listable quality.
