Description
St Edmunds Chapel is a Grade II* listed building located on Priory Street in Dover. Dating from the 12th century, it was originally the Chapel of the Cemetery of the Poor, associated with the Maison Dieu, and served as a pilgrims' chapel dedicated to St Edmund of Canterbury. The chapel is a single-storey structure faced with flint. Inside, it features a restored king-post roof, with some tie-beams reused from another medieval building. The exterior includes two lancet windows. In 1544, the chapel was dissolved and subsequently had various uses, including a victualling store for the Navy, a store room, and a forge. It has recently been restored for ecclesiastical purposes.
