Description
The School Chapel at Dover College, originally the Guest Hall of St Martin's Priory, dates from the late 12th century and was restored and adapted in the late 19th century. Constructed from flint with stone dressings and a tiled roof, the building features six restored lancet windows separated by buttresses, with a 19th-century apse added to the northeast. The southwest side includes an external flint chimneystack that indicates its earlier use. There is a small square tower at the southwest corner topped with a 19th-century bell stage that has louvred openings. The entrance is marked by an arched doorcase. Inside, the chapel boasts a six-bay 12th-century west arcade supported by circular piers with deep scallop capitals and pointed arches, where the inner order is slightly chamfered. The fourth bay was modified in the 19th century to replace an internal fireplace.
