Description

The Royal Marines School of Music is an early 19th-century building of three storeys, constructed from stock brick with a hipped slate roof and a moulded cornice. It features 27 sash windows with intact glazing bars. The two end bays on each side and the central seven bays project, with the central three bays projecting the furthest. These bays are topped with a pediment containing a curved brick arch, above which sits a cupola with a weathervane, supported by eight Tuscan columns and incorporating a clock. A Tuscan porch, with entablature and four Tuscan columns and pilasters, provides access to a doorcase featuring a segmental fanlight and a six-panelled door. The building is part of a group that includes the Royal Marines School of Music, a wall, and gates.
