Description

Upton Court Farm and Upton Court Farm Cottage is a house, now a pair of houses, dating from the 16th century and extended and altered, particularly in the early 19th century. The building is timber framed and rendered, with an exposed frame at the rear featuring large panels and plaster infill. It has a plain tiled roof and stands two storeys high. The right-hand side has three bays with a continuous jetty and a hipped roof, with stacks on both the left and right sides.

On the first floor, there are six wooden casement windows, while the ground floor features a wooden casement to the left, glazing bar sashes in the central and end right positions, and a large canted bay window in the centre right. There is a half-glazed door to the left and a boarded door to the right. To the left, there is a single-storey extension with a slate roof and a wooden casement window. At the rear, there is an outshot made of red and blue chequered brick.

Historically, this building served as a manorial centre and was associated with the medieval Upton family, later becoming the home of the Philipott family until the time of Henry VIII. It was described as "neatly fitted up in the cottage style" during Hasted's time around 1800.
