Description
Tall Chimneys and Number 9 is a pair of cottages built in 1878-1879 by George Devey for William Oxenden Hammond. The cottages are constructed from dressed stone and red brick featuring blue diaper patterns, with roughcast and exposed framed upper sections, reflecting the style of the St. Albans Court estate. They are one storey with an attic and have projecting double jettied gables on both the right and left returns. A continuous jetty with a moulded bressumer is supported by corbelled brackets. The chimneys project at the end right and at the front left. There is a two-storey bay on the centre left, and each floor of the right-hand gable features oriel windows, while the bay contains mullioned windows. The central entrance is a four-centred arched rib and stud door, which replaces a previously blocked door on the left side of the gable.
