Description
The Marquis of Granby is a public house built in 1810 for John Collard, the publican. It features painted brick and flint return elevations with a plain tiled roof. The building is two storeys high, set on a plinth, and has a brick dentillated eaves cornice beneath a half-hipped roof, with chimney stacks at both ends.
The front has a regular arrangement of three cambered glazing bar sashes on the first floor and two on the ground floor. To the left, there is an outshot with white painted flint walls, which includes wooden casements on each floor. There is a blocked round-headed doorway to the left, accessed by five steps with simple iron rails. To the right, there is a panelled door in a double rebated surround with a keystone and imposts, leading up to a flight of five steps with plain iron rails.
On the right side of the building, there is a recessed two-storey wing, which is made up of two sections, partly in painted brick and flint and partly rendered. This wing has two glazing bar sashes on each floor, with a central half-glazed door in a semi-circular surround, also accessed by five steps and rails.
