Description
This is a range of timber-framed buildings dating from the 15th century, situated on the south side of Strand Street. The buildings originally featured a first floor which overhung on projecting floor joists, supported by curved brackets. The first floor has plaster infilling and curved braces. While the ground floors have largely been rebuilt, number 15 retains painted brick infilling. A gable is visible on the east wall. Modern windows and shop fronts are now present. Number 11A retains a blocked original window with wooden mullions on the first floor. Number 15A incorporates the west half of an original doorway, featuring a carved spandrel, with the east half having been removed to accommodate a shop front. Numbers 13 and 15 each have a wing that creates a pleasing courtyard. The roofs are a mix of plain tiles and pantiles. The buildings form a group with numbers 3 to 15A (odd), Three Kings Yard (numbers 1 to 5), a pump and railings, the remains of a chapel, and numbers 19 to 23 (odd), as well as with numbers 8 and 10 High Street.
