Description
Nos 42, 44, and 46 on Castle Street are a mid-19th century terrace of three storeys, built from stock brick, except for No 42, which has an additional storey. The buildings feature a parapet and a moulded eaves cornice. There are four sash windows, most of which retain their glazing bars. No 44 has canted bay windows extending through two storeys, while the other two have bow shop fronts. No 46 showcases 'Gothick' glazing in its shop front, with pointed top panes and an elaborate cornice above the window that mimics a machicolation effect. The buildings also have round-headed fanlights with keystones, steps leading to the street with cast iron handrails, and area railings. Nos 16 to 58 (even) are part of a group.
