Description

The Hill Charity Almshouses comprise a group of buildings dated to the 18th century, with additions from the early 19th and mid-19th centuries, located along the Main Road in Sutton-at-Hone. Numbers 266 and 268 face the main road, while numbers 270 and 272 are attached to the rear. The front buildings, numbers 266 and 272, are constructed of red brick with grey headers. The left bay of number 268 is of early 19th-century stock brick. All have an old tiled roof with three hipped dormers. The windows are primarily casements, although one sash window with intact glazing bars remains in number 268. The doorcases are simple, and number 268 retains its original flat wooden hood supported by brackets. A flight of stone steps leads up to the street. The rear buildings, numbers 270 and 272, which were constructed in the mid-19th century, are of stucco and stock brick, featuring a brick modillion cornice and four sash windows along with simple doorcases.
