Description
28 Castle Street is a building dated 1730 that originally served as the old Kent Sessions House. It incorporates part of the Roman Worthgate and city wall. The building was altered in 1847 and features two storeys with a flint-faced exterior and an old hipped tiled roof, which is topped with three tall stacks. On the left side, there are three sash windows set in brick surrounds. An additional two-storey bay was added in 1847. The side and rear elevations are finished in stucco, with three windows and a coved eaves cornice. The entrance has a round-headed doorcase with a semi-circular fanlight featuring a Greek Key and patera design, flanked by two reeded pilasters and an eight-fielded panelled door. The rear elevation is adorned with a pediment. Attached to the building is a two-storey stable block made of red brick, which includes lunettes.
