Description
The Church of St Mary is a Grade I listed building located on the north side of King Street in Fordwich. It features a chancel, a nave with a north aisle, a south porch, and a west tower topped with a broached shingled spire. The church contains some Saxon work in the nave and the tower, but it is primarily of Norman origin, with later windows added. The chancel and the north aisle date back to the 12th century and remain unrestored. The south porch is constructed from timber framing. The exterior is made of knapped flint, render, and tiles. Inside, there are box pews and other 18th-century fittings, as well as a rare Norman tomb monument. The churchyard features gravestones with carved skulls.
