Description
The King's School Shop is a 16th-century timber-framed house located at 28 Palace Street. It features plaster infilling that is grooved to resemble masonry, with the front almost entirely covered in plaster. The building stands four storeys tall, with each floor overhanging on finely carved grotesque brackets. The gable includes an attic window that contains one section of the original window. The house has mainly restored mullioned and transomed windows, and it boasts a fine 18th-century shop front with pilasters, panelled risers, and a doorcase. The side elevation has two casement windows. Notably, the entire house is leaning significantly to the north. The Church of St Alphege and Nos 10 to 28, which are consecutive, form a group with this building.
