Description

This is a 16th-century gatehouse, part of St John’s Hospital, that has been restored. It is constructed with a timber frame and plaster infill, and has a tiled roof. The front is gabled, featuring shaped bargeboards. Curved braces are visible, along with a single three-light casement window. The original timbers display a Tudor arch with blank shields and leaf decorations within the spandrels. At the rear of the gatehouse, to the left, is a two-story section with pebble dash rendering and projecting joists, including one sliding sash window and one three-light casement window. The gatehouse forms a group with numbers 46 and 48.
