Description
The Great Gateway, also known as Fyndon's Gateway, is located at St Augustine's College and dates from 1283 to 1309. This impressive stone arch features a chamber above and is flanked by stone octagonal turrets. The turrets are adorned with blank niches and corbels, and there are waterspouts present. The gateway is topped with a crenellated parapet that includes a stone seated figure. It forms part of a group that includes No 1, the wall adjoining No 1 to the right, a water pump opposite No 1, Nos 2, and Nos 4 to 18 (even), as well as St Augustine's College, the Hall, the Chapel, and The Cemetery Gateway.
