Description
The Cottage is a 17th-century building located in Little Chart. It has two storeys and an attic with a gable end. The structure is made of red brick and features a tiled roof with a shaped Dutch gable end on the south side. There are three casement windows with round-headed lights, locally known as Dering windows, which were added to cottages and farms belonging to the Surrenden Dering estate in the nearby parish of Pluckley, likely by Sir Edward Cholmeley Dering, the 8th Baronet, who owned the estate from 1811 to 1896. The ground floor windows are adorned with brick architraves and keystones. The entrance has a doorcase with a flat hood supported by scroll brackets.
