Description

Hobday Cottage and Pilgrim Cottage are a pair of cottages located on the south-east side of The Green in Boughton Aluph. The front elevation of Hobday Cottage dates from the 18th century and is constructed of red brick with blue headers, featuring a blank window. The roof is covered with plain tiles, and the building stands two storeys high with a wooden eaves cornice and two end stacks. The front has a regular arrangement of three windows, which are glazing bar sashes, with a blank window in the center and gauged heads above the ground floor windows. The central door consists of six fielded panels and is topped by a flat hood supported by large brackets. There are 19th-century hooped iron railings surrounding a small forecourt, and a 20th-century car port to the left, which is of no special interest.

The side elevation, which belongs to Pilgrim Cottage, has elements from the 17th century but is clad in 18th-century materials. It features a timber-framed wing covered in red brick, with tile hanging and a plain tile roof, also standing two storeys high with an end stack. The fenestration is irregular, consisting of 20th-century casements and 18th-century glazing bar sashes. There is a small segmental bay to the left of a 19th-century gabled porch, which has a half-door to the right.
