Description
The Flying Horse Inn is an inn that dates from the 17th century, with later alterations in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is timber framed and has an L-shaped plan. The front elevation features 19th-century brick cladding and a plain tile roof, rising to two storeys with a hipped roof and two stacks at the rear. The front has three windows, with Dering lights; the central window has two lights, while the others have three. There is a 20th-century door set within a central gabled porch.
On the left side elevation, the inn displays 17th-century red brick cladding in English bond, also topped with a plain tile roof. This side has two storeys and an attic, featuring a plat band and a single gabled dormer, with a stack positioned to the right. There are three windows on this elevation, with Dering lights on the first floor and 19th-century wooden casements with gauged heads on the ground floor. The brickwork on the right end of the front block is earlier 17th-century English bond, which includes one 19th-century metal casement in a triangular-headed opening, along with a 20th-century door and hood to the right. There are large 19th- and 20th-century extensions to the left that are not of special interest.
