Description
The Old Cottage is a house that dates back to the 16th century or earlier. It features a timber frame that is exposed, with painted brick infill and a base of painted ragstone. The building has been clad and extended with painted brick and has a plain tiled roof. It consists of four and a half framed bays and is two storeys high, standing on a plinth with a hipped roof that includes gablets and a cluster of stacks to the centre left. On each floor, there are two tri-partite wooden casements and a single casement located to the centre left. Iron rod ties are present on the left side. Access is provided by a panelled door located in the left return of a late 20th-century single storey extension. At the rear, there is a catslide outshot. Inside, the cottage features an inglenook fireplace and massive main beams. It is believed to have originally been either a hall house or a continuous jettied house, which would have included a cross-passage, later modified to a lobby entry.
