Description
Malthouse consists of two cottages, dating from the 16th century with an addition from the 18th century. The buildings are timber framed, with brick cladding on the ground floor and tile hanging on the first floor, topped by a plain tile roof. No. 5, on the right, is possibly an early 16th-century Wealden house, although its jetties and recessed hall are concealed by later cladding. The structure has two storeys and features a steeply hipped roof with gablets, a large ridge stack to the right behind the entrance, and a small end stack to the right. The windows are irregularly placed, including three 19th-century casements and 20th-century tripartite sashes on the ground floor. There is a 19th-century door to the right, which has a flat hood supported by brackets. No. 4, on the left, is the 18th-century addition, built in brick and separately roofed with a plain tile hip at the front. This cottage also has two storeys, a small truncated end stack on the left, one window featuring a glazing bar sash in a segment-headed opening, and a plain plank door to the right.
